Description
The book marks the circulation of the term "promiscuous feminist methodology" and registers its salience for educational researchers who risk blundering feminist theories and methodologies in chaotic and unbridled ways. The sexism embedded in language is what makes the notion of promiscuous "feminists gone wild" tantalizing, though what the book puts forth is how the messy practice of inquiry transgresses any imposed boundaries or assumptions about what counts as research and feminism. What can researchers do when we realize that theories are not quite enough to respond to our material experiences with people, places, practices, and policies becoming data? As a collection, the book provides how various theories researchers put to work "get dirty" as they are contaminated and re-appropriated by other ways of thinking and doing through (con)texts of messy practices. In this way, gender cannot simply be gender and promiscuous feminist methodologies are always in-the-making and already ahead of what we think they are. This book was originally published as a special issue of the International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education.

Learn effective strategies for therapy with promiscuous patients from this in-depth exploration of the phenomenon of promiscuity in the lives and backgrounds of patients seeking psychotherapy. This unique book features insights about the pitfalls of patients who cannot bear commitment to any one person, or who jeopardize their commitments with a need to spark their lives with promiscuity. Psychotherapy and the Promiscuous Patient teaches psychotherapists to respond to their patients’promiscuous behavior as a symptom of a problem, not the problem itself. A realm of aspects of promiscuity are explored within the psychiatric context. Promiscuity is very broadly defined in fascinating examinations of adult promiscuity as a result of childhood sexual abuse, hypersexuality in adult males, addiction to the sensation of “falling in love,” career promiscuity, and even psychotherapy as an uncommon “promiscuity’--a nonexclusive, altruistic love. Timely chapters confront the changing distinctions between promiscuity and sex addiction and challenge readers to uncover the various emotional needs met by promiscuity in order to protect patients from their self-destructive behavior. Knowledgeable practicing psychotherapists relate methods for dealing with patients’constant restlessness and working with a variety of patients in an intimate setting. Psychotherapy and the Promiscuous Patient contains invaluable strategies that can be directly applied to practice including: the use of narrative construction and reconstruction as treatment for sexually promiscuous clients a self-psychological approach to treatment the importance of confusion as an introduction to change in therapy a method of self-investigation applied to promiscuous behavior the implications of the clinical meaning and therapeutic use of strong-laughter outbursts in psychology a self-psychology perspective on transference to therapists Psychotherapy and the Promiscuous Patient is a valuable clinical book for psychotherapists, and it offers an across the board appeal to a wide variety of psychiatrists and related social scientists who are interested in today’s shifting moral climate. It is also an ideal supplemental text for an introductory methods or applications in psychiatry course.

In Promiscuous Media, Hikari Hori makes a compelling case that the visual culture of Showa-era Japan articulated urgent issues of modernity rather than serving as a simple expression of nationalism. Hori makes clear that the Japanese cinema of the time was in fact almost wholly built on a foundation of Russian and British film theory as well as American film genres and techniques. Hori provides a range of examples that illustrate how maternal melodrama and animated features, akin to those popularized by Disney, were adopted wholesale by Japanese filmmakers. Emperor Hirohito's image, Hori argues, was inseparable from the development of mass media; he was the first emperor whose public appearances were covered by media ranging from postcards to radio broadcasts. Worship of the emperor through viewing his image, Hori shows, taught the Japanese people how to look at images and primed their enjoyment of early animation and documentary films alike. Promiscuous Media links the political and the cultural closely in a way that illuminates the nature of twentieth-century Japanese society.

When he had finished and still panting, Samantha said You didnt expect to find me in this bed, did you? and switched on the light. A young woman decided that she would take matters into her own hands if she could not live the life she always wanted. As a young woman, her father would always encourage her to be her best and that she would become a wonderful human being. She knew her biological parents love her, but when her mother left her and her five siblings behind, she questioned the love of her mother. Mariana knew that she was daddys little girl, but she did not know if her mother felt the same about her. She knew exactly the kind of life she wanted when she grows up, but after the death of her father, she knew it would be a struggle staying on track. She was quite determined to rise up in spite of her adversities. After the death of her father, she moved in with her auntie. She hoped that she would feel love again, but unfortunately, it was the beginning of a difficult journey. She had some of the most grueling experiences in her life that, at times, she wished she was dead and buried next to her daddy. Mariana was determined to make a life for herself. Luck came when she met a family who fell in love with her and decided to take her in. At that point, she knew that she would be able to get an education and fulfill that long-anticipated dream. She wanted all the good things in life, but she knew that those good things come at a cost. As she began her new life with this family, she had some of the greatest experiences, and it was the first time that she actually felt loved since the death of her father and the absence of her mother. Her life at her new home was certainly a new experience, but it was too good to be true. Mariana, at a tender age, was exposed to sex by her foster father, who got her pregnant while she was still a child. From that point on, she became a lover of sex, which resulted in her many pregnancies. This riveting tale takes one deep into the life of a woman who fought for the life she wanted but faced many obstacles that forced her to go from one relationship to another. In her quest to find a husband and create the ideal family for herself, her luck led her down a path that was truly painful for her. She had many children with men who had no interest in staying with her. Did she ever get that life that she anticipated? It was not until all the rules in the book were broken that she actually found love after giving up on the world to become a nun. Her feelings could not be easily suppressed, so she had to find a way to satisfy her craving even if she had to bring someone into her sacred space. The convent was not off-limits when it comes to a woman who would take the ultimate risk to obtain love. This explorative journey takes the reader on a mission to a place that was dark and vacant, but change will come and will reside in the heart of a woman who was beaten down by selfish men who think only of themselves as they seek pleasure from those who are weak and are unable to resist the undeniable feeling of love.

Poet and novelist Charles Bukowski described promiscuity as "feast and feast and feast." The promiscuous person is having fun, getting away with it, and showing no signs of stopping. More often, though, promiscuity has been seen as demonic, as the sign of an uncivilised race, or as a symptom of mental disorder. Promiscuity in Western Literature capitalises on the fact that literature gives us deep and varied resources for reflecting on this controversial aspect of human behaviour. Drawing on authors from Homer to Margaret Atwood, it explores recurrent ideas and scenarios: Why does the literature of promiscuity evoke ideas of the animal? Why does it so often turn upon the image of the "excessive" woman? How and why does promiscuity feature in comic writing? How does the emergence of the modern city change representations of promiscuity? And, in the present day, what impact have ecological concerns had on the way writers depict promiscuity?

Wide-ranging research suggests that partners in gay male and bisexual relationships do not necessarily expect monogamy, or see it as an important issue. Although the frequency of gay male and bisexual non-monogamous partnerships tends to be widely acknowledged in social science literature, these relationships have rarely been explored in more detail. By providing rich empirical data, thoughtful analysis and theoretical debate, this book makes a significant contribution to the sociological literature on sexual and intimate relationships. More specifically it explores the diversity of gay male and bisexual relationship practices in the context of heteronormative citizenship and intra-social movement conflict, and highlights the complexity of power relations that circumscribe queer people's relationships and sexual lives. Written in an accessible and engaging manner, The Spectre of Promiscuity provides important insights for further studies on sexual culture, discourse, citizenship, politics and ethics.

In The Promiscuity Papers, archetypal roots of promiscuity are explored. In classical Greek and Roman mythology some promiscuous father figures may be found viz. Chronos (Saturn), and Zeus (Jupiter). Another form of Saturnian promiscuous dynamic is explored in the mythological figures of Oedipus and Antigone. This is followed by presentation of a case history. Ines, a woman in her early thirties, enters analysis because she would like to solve the recurring problem of her unsuitable partnerships, in which her partners are predominantly promiscuous. The father was psychotically disturbed and the patient was the family member who offered support to him. Psychotherapy started with a stable frequency of two sessions a week. Within the transference, there appear two figures. One of a 'positive father, ' and the other as the 'all-knowing.' The latter may be compared with the mythological figure of Oedipus, whose intelligence was exceptional, being demonstrated in his redemption of Thebes from the Sphinx. All the same, Oedipus suffered from a promiscuously incestuous relationship with his mother Iocaste. During old age, when he was expelled, and accompanied by his faithful daughter Antigone, Oedipus was most probably psychotic. In the analysis, Ines has decided, after 200 hours of analysis, to reduce the frequency down to one session a week. The problem of analytic interpretation is described, as well as the effects of interpretation (when it finally takes place) that it had on the analytic relationship and analytic process. The intimate and important link between promiscuity and incest is also explored, promiscuous actualizing the incestuous. Promiscuity is a manifest sexual activity with the unknown other. Promiscuity can also be considered as a defense against paranoia.
